Tailoring palladium nanocontacts by electromigration

Electromigration is employed in nanoelectronics for transforming narrow metallic wires into electrodes separated by a few nanometers gap. In this work, we fabricate either nanoconstrictions or nanogap electrodes by performing electromigration in palladium nanowires. The device resistance and the cross section of the initial nanowires allow us to regulate the conditions for transforming deterministically each nanowire in a specific final device. The resulting samples show unique electrical transport characteristics and could be used in multiple nanoelectronics research applications, from ballistic transport to electrodes for single molecular devices.Fil: Arzubiaga, Libe. Mortalidad y crecimiento vegetativo en la provincia de Guadalajara, 1700-1865

This working paper central purpose is to study the magnitude and the evolution of mortality in the Guadalajara province between 1700 and 1865. The parish registers of baptisms and deaths in a sample of 25 local entities are the main source of data. The principal finding is the slightly downward trend in the gross mortality rate between 1750 and 1830s, only broken by a brisk surge during the first years of the XIX century. El apoyo social en situaciones de crisis : un estudio de caso desde la perspectiva de las redes personales = Social support in crisis situations : a case study from the perspective of personal networks

En este trabajo se pretende mostrar cómo el estudio de las redes personales permite aproximarse al apoyo social de una forma integral, incorporando las aportaciones realizadas hasta ahora en este campo en una visión holista de la persona. Gracias a un estudio de caso y a una encuesta a 360 personas en España y Estados Unidos mostramos cómo las redes personales permiten entender mejor el cambio en la estructura, composición y función de las relaciones sociales que se produce ante una situación vital de estrés.________________________________This paper shows how social support can be better understood through personal networks, as far as all types of relationships are taking into account. This holistic perspective allows the better understanding of changes that occur in the social environment of people affected by a dramatic situation like the illness of a child. We illustrate this change with a case study and data taken from a survey in Spain and the USA (N=360)

Tuning the resistive switching properties of TiO2-x films

We study the electrical characteristics of TiO2-x-based resistive switching devices fabricated with different oxygen/argon flow ratio during the oxide thin film sputtering deposition. Upon minute changes in this fabrication parameter, three qualitatively different device characteristics were accessed in the same system, namely, standard bipolar resistive switching, electroforming-free devices, and devices with multi-step breakdown. We propose that small variations in the oxygen/ argon flow ratio result in relevant changes of the oxygen vacancy concentration, which is the key parameter determining the resistive switching behavior. The coexistence of percolative or non-percolative conductive filaments is also discussed. Finally, the hypothesis is verified by means of the temperature dependence of the devices in low resistance state.Fil: Ghenzi, Néstor. La ciencia mejor informada, a pesar de que se hayan ignorado sus avisos, viene advirtiendo desde hace tiempo que las sociedades industriales se dirigen hacia un inminente escenario de reducción de los recursos materiales y energéticos disponibles. Los tiempos de abundancia económica y de estabilidad política que conocieron las democracias occidentales del capitalismo avanzado en su periodo de máxima expansión parece que en realidad serán un breve episodio de la historia humana. Las contribuciones que reúne el presente número de ‘Pasajes’ pretenden simplemente volver a poner encima de la mesa una cuestión que será cada vez más apremiante y para la que deberíamos tener preparadas algunas respuestas efectivas

Obrar en consecuencia. La lógica de la experiencia de John Dewey

Despite the scant echo of Dewey's contributions in the field of Logic, the development of Logic during the second half of the twentieth century and during the twenty-first century can be considered a confirmation of Dewey's ideas about the role of logic in relation to knowledge. Logic, in the precise sense that Dewey gives the term, has been the constant concern of Dewey's philosophy and is the pinnacle that crowns his project of a naturalization of philosophy. In the case of Logic, Dewey’s project tries to show how logical forms arise in the operation of investigating and are in charge of controlling the investigation so that it can produce warranted assertability. Two consequences follow from this approach, that is, the empirical character of logical principles and hence its naturalization and a radical reformulation of the classic problem of truth.  A pesar del escaso eco que las contribuciones de Dewey parecen haber logrado en el campo de la lógica, la ampliación que ha sufrido la disciplina lógica en la segunda mitad del siglo XX y en lo que llevamos del siglo XXI puede considerarse en muchos sentidos una confirmación de las ideas de Dewey en torno al papel de la lógica en el conjunto del saber. La lógica, en el preciso sentido que Dewey otorga al término, ha sido la preocupación constante del recorrido intelectual de Dewey y es la cima que corona su proyecto de una naturalización de la filosofía. En el caso de la lógica, ese proyecto pasa por mostrar en qué sentido las formas lógicas surgen en la operación de investigar y se ocupan de controlar la investigación para que esta pueda producir aserciones garantizadas. Lo que tendrá como consecuencia asumir el carácter empírico de los principios lógicos y una reformulación radical del problema clásico de la verdad.&nbsp

El éxito del Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel: estrategias, claves y consecuencias

[ES] El presente trabajo ofrece un análisis de los motivos por los que el Universo cinematográfico de Marvel ha llegado a ser un referente del cine comercial de nuestro tiempo, así como de las consecuencias de su éxito. Se estudiará el caso desde distintas perspectivas: estrategia del mapa de tramas, narrativa transmedia, filosofía de sus películas, fenómeno fan y aspectos económicos. Todo esto con el objetivo de presentar al cine de superhéroes como objeto de estudio y como muestra representativa del cine contemporáneo.[EN] The present work offers an analysis of the reasons why the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a benchmark for commercial cinema of our time, as well as the consequences of its success. The case will be studied from different perspectives: plot map strategy, transmedia narrative, film philosophy, fan phenomenon and economic aspects.
